Back in Victoria Square, the Jamaica 0121 Festival brought its exhilarating and dazzling display of Jamaica’s influence to the centre of Birmingham city as the weekend-long celebration to mark the country’s 62nd year of independence brought the very best of the island’s culture, music, food and identity – the likes of which could only be matched by Jamaica itself!
Sponsored and supported by the Victoria Mutual Group, the Noir Rose Group, Event Men, VTelevision, The Mortgage Place, SNSG Security and NATIONAL Delivering Freshness Every Day, the sun shone bright, as people ventured from near and for to lap-up the flavour to get their own flavour of the Caribbean, in the heart of the UK. Featuring a host of live bands, performance artists, DJs, sound systems, and some of the finest cuisine ever – boy, was it good to be back in the heart of the city?
One Jamaica 0121 Festival visitor, Chantelle Ellison, from Wolverhampton, said: “It’s great to have the Festival back in town.
“It’s like bringing Jamaica here – with its great food, music and atmosphere, it’s just great fun for my family and I.” With the family-friendly festival, as ever, providing the greatest demonstration of the Birmingham’s ever-growing links with the country, and its culture so engaging with the UK’s second city’s encapsulating diverse spirit, it’s just so fantastic that the Festival was back where it so intrinsically belongs!
And the great thing is… there’s still one more day to go!
