The Caribbean is an eternal winter-sun favourite but for those seeking more than just a beach break, St. Kitts is the perfect choice.
The island boasts rainforest adventures, immersive rum-tasting tours, a rich cultural heritage, and a vibrant culinary scene. Plus, it's easily accessible from the UK with British Airways offering twice-weekly flights from London Gatwick.
This winter, St. Kitts’ Belle Mont Sanctuary Resort at Kittitian Hill will unveil its deluxe, new spa. Belle Mont Sanctuary Resort at Kittitian Hill (formerly Belle Mont Farm) was rebranded in early 2024 and has undergone renovations and upgrades this year.
The new spa will be called Mangifera Wellbeing Spa at Kittitian Hill and is slated to open in December 2024. Two new dining experiences will also be unveiled in time for winter sun-seekers.
After a period of soft opening, the hottest new restaurant in St. Kitts, Orchid Bay Beach House, will officially open its doors in November 2024, offering sweeping views of the sea at sunset and family style authentic Italian cuisine. Meanwhile, on the south of the island, the lively Spice Mill restaurant, with its prime position on Cockleshell Beach, one of the island’s best beaches, will unveil a dramatic, new roof terrace this winter.
The additional 2,500sq ft of rooftop space will comprise a grass thatched roof area with a cocktail bar, at one end, and an open-air terrace at the other. Diners will soak up breathtaking views of neighbouring Nevis, accessible from every table, whilst sipping cocktails at sunset.
The bar will serve speciality cocktails featuring owner, Roger Brisbane’s, signature Hibiscus Spirits, which are created by infusing handpicked and locally grown Roselle Hibiscus calyx, known as sorrel, to flavour the rum and create a natural red colour. In addition, the rooftop bar will serve a full range of spirits, beer and wine alongside small plates and tapas-style cuisine.
The new space will play host to live music and local DJs Thursday to Sunday. Visitors over the festive season will be able to soak up the atmosphere of the St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival, otherwise known as “Sugar Mas”.
Unlike most Caribbean carnivals which take place in the summer months, Sugar Mas takes place from mid-December until early January (13 December 2024 – 2 January 2025) and is the only Caribbean carnival that incorporates Christmas festivities into the celebrations. It is a colourful and joyful celebration of the heritage and culture of the island, mixed with the spirit of Christmas.
The name Sugar Mas is derived from the island’s nickname, “Sugar City”, which stems from St. Kitts’ history in sugar production. Up until 2005, St. Kitts produced some of the best quality Muscovado sugar on the market. Authentic to its core, Sugar Mas is really unmatched in terms of vibe and energy.
The National Carnival kicks it all off with a vibrant calypso show and the party keeps rolling from there with a series of fetes featuring waterworks, powder-filled revelry, live music, colourful costumes, moko jumbies, masqueraders and more. From calypso and soca monarch competitions, pageants, Panorama, J’ouvert (starting at daybreak), a New Year’s Day parade, Last Lap and more, Sugar Mas is really the perfect synergy between tradition and new school.
