2Funky Arts is looking to work with artists from Black, African and Caribbean backgrounds, for a performance showcase that will tour the Midlands during Black History Month 2024. What’s more, performers will be paid for their contribution.

The dynamic, Leicester-based, arts and music organisation, will select 12 Midlands-based artists to perform in this tour. Artists will be commissioned to create new, insightful performance pieces, that reflect and celebrate the vibrancy of Black history and culture.

Those selected will receive a £500 fee to create and rehearse a new, 8 to 10 minute performance piece, as well as £200 per performance (4 in total). Performances will be part of a touring showcase that will be featured at venues in Derby, Leicester, Birmingham and Nottingham.

Tour dates include:

4th October – Derby, Baby People

13th October – Leicester, Y Theatre

18th October – Birmingham, Midlands Arts Centre

24th October – Nottingham, Nottingham Arts Theatre

2Funky Art’s Director Vijay Mistry commented: “And Still I Rise is an important project, helping to celebrate the rich history of Black culture by providing a platform for hidden stories.

“This showcase represents an opportunity for emerging artists to express their voices through powerful art forms such as music and poetry.” Artists must be available for all dates, be of Black, African or Caribbean descent, aged 18+ and from the Midlands.

2Funky Arts welcome all performance styles (poetry, music, dance, theatre).
