WV Active is working with the Institute of Swimming to offer Wolverhampton residents part-funded training to gain a swimming teacher qualification.
Those looking to start a new career as a swimming teacher can apply to join the Swimming Teacher Recruitment Academy.
The cost of training is usually over £1,000, but through a partnership between the City of Wolverhampton Council and the Swimming Teacher Recruitment Academy, those taking part will pay just £79 to complete the training course and gain their qualification. Successful trainees will have the opportunity to secure a swimming teacher role at one of the council’s two WV Active swimming pools.
The deadline for applications is Monday 27 September, and all successful applicants will complete a telephone interview before being invited to a meet and greet at WV Active. The course starts in October and is a mix of online and face-to-face learning, with mandatory volunteer hours to complete.
Councillor Steve Evans, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for City Environment and Climate Change, said: “If you’ve ever thought about becoming a swimming instructor, this is an excellent way into what is a very important role.”
