Four years on from the dazzling 2012 Games, the Olympic spirit returned to London at 'Brazil Day' which took place in Trafalgar Square on Saturday 10 September. This free event took place from 12.00 – 7pm and was a celebration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and a chance to enjoy a taste of Brazil's culture, passion and vibrancy in central London. Bringing together athletes from more than 200 nations in a celebration of sport, this is the first time the Olympic and Paralympic Games have been held in South America warranting a proper UK celebration.
Brazil Day 2016 was an unmissable opportunity to celebrate the Rio Games and enjoy Brazilian music, DJs, sport, and more. The music reflected the cultural diversity of Brazil – from alluring bossa nova to the powerful beat of samba creating a street-carnival atmosphere in Trafalgar Square; so much so that even Lord Nelson was tapping his feet! There was also be a sporting dimension, with interactive games, and highlights of Rio 2016 shown on a giant screen.
Visitors enjoyed traditional Brazilian flavours with food stalls selling Brazilian street food and refreshments, including churrasco barbecue, Amazonian superfood açaí, pão de queijo (cheesebread), and many other Brazilian treats.
Brazil Day 2016 was organised by the Embassy of Brazil in London in partnership with Brazil's Ministry of Sport and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (APEX).
