A particularly diverse set of subjects go under the spotlight in a series of local history talks taking place in January. The City of Wolverhampton Council's Arts and Museums Service organises regular talks on a wide variety of historical subjects, including three next month. They begin with He's Behind You!, which tells the story of Victorian and Edwardian pantomime. Local historian Ellen Couchman Crook will be exploring an early phase of the panto we know today at Bantock House Museum on Tuesday 5 January, 2016, from 1.30pm-2.30pm.
On Wednesday 13 January, 2016, David Taylor recounts the End of an Industry: The Nailmakers of Wombourne, looking at the demise of this trade and the effect it had on the local community. The talk takes place at Wolverhampton Archives and Local Studies’ Molineux Hotel Building from 5.30pm-6.30pm.
Finally, on Friday 15 January, 2016, journalist Paul Rees explores the life of a local lad turned rock legend in Robert Plant: A Life. The musician and songwriter is best known as the lead singer and lyricist of Led Zeppelin. It takes place at Wolverhampton Art Gallery from 2-3pm.
