The Central American Tourism Promotion Agency (CATA) received for the fifth time the Award for Excellence in Tourism, granted by the Excelencias Group, during the 44th edition of the International Tourism Trade Fair FITUR, which is being held from January 24 to 28 at the IFEMA venue in Madrid, Spain.

The award is given to tourism projects, companies or institutions that stand out throughout the year for relevant actions, significant ideas or creative plans that made a difference in the tourism sector during the year 2023, becoming a benchmark for the field of tourism and gastronomy in Ibero-America. On this occasion, CATA was selected for its significant contribution to the digitalization and innovation of the industry through the implementation of a workshop to promote a new generation of tourism products in Central America and the Dominican Republic through the use of artificial intelligence. 

This initiative fostered collaborative work among more than 30 tour operator companies in the region for the conceptualization and development of unique tourism products through new technologies. The use of artificial intelligence helped to optimize tourism experiences, stimulate innovation in the industry and contribute to the positioning of Central America and the Dominican Republic as a cutting-edge destination.

For its high impact and contribution to the strengthening of tourism MSMEs in the region, it was awarded in the category Tourism Excellence Awards 2023. The award was received by Mr. Boris Iraheta, Secretary General of CATA, together with Ms. Anasha Campbell, Minister of Tourism of Nicaragua, Ms. Reizel Vilorio, Vice Minister of Tourism of Honduras, Mr. Edwin Alberto Guerra, Chargé d'Affaires Economiques of the Embassy of El Salvador in Spain, Ms. Silvia Orozco, Executive Director of CATA, and Ms. Silvia Orozco, Executive Director of CATA. Silvia Orozco, Executive Director of the Salvadoran Chamber of Tourism (CASATUR) and Mr. Carlos Umaña, President of CASATUR and President Pro Tempore of the Federation of Central American Chambers of Tourism (FEDECATUR). 

The Excelencias Awards were created in 2005 by the Excelencias Group with the purpose of promoting excellence in different fields related to tourism, gastronomy and culture in Ibero-America.
