A £1.6million improvement scheme which will help to attract more visitors and boost investment in Wolverhampton city centre is moving in to its final phase.

Repaving and resurfacing will take place in Princess Street, Market Street and Garrick Street.

Traffic signals will be upgraded at the junction of Market Street and Bilston Street and the junction of Garrick Street and Snow Hill.

Four new bus shelters will be installed in Bilston Street and the city council will be working with Centro to replace eight other city centre bus stops. Work will begin at the end of February and be completed by September.

Wolverhampton City Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Prosperity Councillor Peter Bilson said: “The city centre improvements play an important part the wider multi-million pound regeneration of Wolverhampton.

We want to ensure that this city continues to be an attractive place to live, visit and work. Enhancing the city centre means we can attract more investment, retain the businesses we have and create more jobs.

We would like to thank people and businesses for bearing with us during this time.”

While the resurfacing work takes place, out-of-hours temporary road closures will be needed in Market Street and Garrick Street. These will be advertised and businesses informed well in advance of the works.

The temporary closure will take place between 2 March and the end of June. During this period, the direction of one-way traffic will be temporarily reversed along the pedestrianised section of Queen Street, King Street and part of Dudley Street. People will be able to access to businesses and properties at all times.
