Leaders from across Adult and Children’s Services have come together welcome newly qualified social workers who have recently joined or who are about to join the City of Wolverhampton Council.

As newly qualified social workers, they will be part of the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) programme which gives social workers extra support during their first stage of their career.

The programme aims to develop their skills, knowledge and professional confidence in this rewarding yet challenging role.

The council has a supportive and structured ASYE programme, which includes training and reflective sessions as well as a protected workload to build social workers’ confidence, help them to consolidate their learning and strengthen their professional confidence, whilst being assessed against the post-qualification standards. A number of newly qualified social workers will be joining the council over the next few weeks and will be based across the service and within different teams.

Councillor Beverley Momenabadi, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Wolverhampton is a great place to be a social worker, and as a council we take the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment very seriously. It's a great way for newly qualified social workers to hone their skills as they embark on their careers with us.”

The City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Cllr Linda Leach, added: "Our social workers do an incredible job and it's so important that they are given the support they need to be the best they can possibly be, through programmes such as this."
