Peel group seem hell bent on getting as much cash as they can by closing the airport and flogging the site for housing, says GMB Union

Doncaster Sheffield Airport has topped the Which? Survey of best airports for the fourth year running. The South Yorkshire hub came first in a customer service survey, with a customer score of 85 per cent.

The airport’s owners, the Peel Group, have announced they would be winding down operations from the week commencing 31 October, despite the offer of public cash to keep it open until a buyer is found. Doncaster Sheffield Airport workers went to Parliament last week to hand in a 100,000 strong petition to save the site.

Sarah Barnes, GMB Organiser, said: “Once again Doncaster Sheffield Airport has been named the best in the country for customer satisfaction. It’s an incredible transport hub, with huge scope for expansion. It needs to be saved.

“Instead, Peel Group seem hell bent on getting as much cash as they can by closing the airport and flogging the site for housing. It makes no sense for any one but the Peel Group top we cannot let them get away with it.”
