Fans and critics alike have become enamoured with Emeli Sandé’s latest album ‘How Were We To Know’, which sees her exploring the highs and heartbreaks of love with her sumptuous, soulful and spirited vocal class.
Having earned a fresh wave of critical acclaim as well as a Top 10 position on the Album Sales Chart, Emeli keeps the album in the spotlight as she today shares the video for the new song ‘My Boy Likes To Party’. ‘My Boy Likes To Party’ is one of the most instantly electrifying moments of the set.
Propulsive electro-pop with a Scandi edge, it is a song that’s undeniably uplifting yet Emeli tells the story of a couple with radically different priorities at this moment in their lives - and it looks as if it’s an imbalance that will be impossible to overcome. It’s a full-blooded confessional in which Emeli holds nothing back.
As she sings in the song’s bridge, the realisation has come that she will have to be the one to make the change: “Baby, please now stop, this shit is getting real embarrassing…
“It's like I got ‘Idiot’ there written 'cross my forehead… If I wanna save my life, then I better start learning.” The video for the track reflects the song’s downcast emotions, but conveys them in a manner that’s playfully engaging.
Emeli arrives home from a weekend away to find the house in disarray. Empty cans and bottles are scattered everywhere, smoke still lingers and strangers appear to be emerging like zombies from every room.
As Emeli surveys the wreckage, the scene only gets worse and the one apology she receives is hopelessly inadequate. The video was directed by Tom Stoddart, with Iona Magnus as creative director and producer.
Emeli says: “Excited to release the 4th and final single from ‘How Were We To Know’ one of my favourite tracks from the album, it was great to work again with producer Henri Davies on this song, we always come up with something a little different when we get into the studio together. She celebrated the release of ‘How Were We To Know’ with a special intimate performance at Union Chapel, which included a Q&A hosted by her friend Zawe Ashton. Her other recent shows have included the EFG Jazz Festival London, and Magic Radio’s Magic of Christmas extravaganza.
Emeli Sandé will play a session for Rylan’s Radio 2 show ahead of an intimate residency at Ronnie Scott’s later this month. All six shows - matinee and evening performances each day from January 24th-26th - sold-out within an hour!
