The eSkootr Championship (eSC), has launched its Rider Programme for professional athletes wanting to compete in the brand-new electric racing series that starts in the spring of 2022.

The programme is open to professional athletes from all backgrounds, from wheeled sports to balance sports such as skating, skiing, snowboarding and surfing, with a number of high-profile names already expressing interest and set to be announced soon.

The Rider Programme gives potential competitors the opportunity to test the SX-1 eSkootr which has been developed for the eSC by the Italian Advanced Technology firm, YCOM. The eSkootr can reach speeds of over 100 km/h and will be raced around specially designed street circuits in major cities around the world.

Moto GP rider Bradley Smith will join eSC to assist with rider recruitment and development, using his expertise from professional sport to help identify athletes who can make the transition to become the first professional eSkootr racers in the world.

Teams entering eSC will be given the opportunity to select riders from the pool of talent in the Rider Programme during the eSC Draft which will take place in January next year. The eSC Draft will allow for riders from a diverse range of sporting backgrounds, while also balancing out talent to ensure a level playing field amongst teams.

Khalil Beschir, eSkootr Championship™ COO, said: “eSC is sport with purpose. We are calling on world-class athletes from all disciplines to come and be part of our Rider Programme. eSC will present not only an incredible sporting spectacle, but also form part of a wider mission to help bring safety, infrastructure and technology to micromobility in our cities.

“More sustainable and safer transportation around cities needs to be publicised and the technology invested in to develop a better understanding of micromobilty and inner-city travel. Our riders will be the real-life heroes of that mission.

“eSC will be the most diverse sport in the world, attracting professional sportspeople from all disciplines and will be truly gender neutral. Bradley’s expertise in identifying the potential within test riders will really help us put together an incredible group of riders for our teams to choose from in January’s Draft.”

Bradley Smith added: “I’m delighted to be assisting eSC in bringing together sports people from around the world to be part of the Rider Programme. As a brand-new sport, eSC is creating new sporting heroes and I’m excited to be part of the process in identifying those individuals. We’re talking to some amazingly talented athletes from a range of disciplines and I’ve no doubt we will find some real stars amongst them.”

eSC aims to take away the barriers to entry usually associated with racing championships and reach a new demographic through accessible top-level sport that is open to a hugely diverse range of professional athletes from all different backgrounds. Riders from the Championship’s first collective test in July came from backgrounds such as skiing, scooters, motorcycles, BMX and water skiing.
