Independent production company Brown Bob Productions has been working for several years closely with the NHS Counter Fraud Authority (NHSCFA) and its partners, who present real cases on the show to shine a light on fraud against the NHS budget.

With NHS resources fully stretched after a two year Covid pandemic, it is more important than ever to ensure that the NHS budget (of over £100 billion a year) is not diverted from its proper purpose of services for patients.

NHSCFA estimates that more than one percent of this budget is vulnerable to fraud every year, which equates to over £1b a year. Previous episodes of ‘Fraud Squad’ resulted in spikes of people reporting their suspicion of fraud to the NHS Fraud and Corruption Reporting Line, managed by NHSCFA and Crimestoppers.

While highly popular, ‘Fraud Squad’ serves a higher public interest than mere entertainment. It helps drive up understanding of the work of all who fight fraud in the NHS system. The format of Fraud Squad focuses on investigations.

The new series is also an incredibly valuable opportunity to focus attention on all the intelligence gathering and fraud prevention work being done by NHSCFA and its partners, working in ever closer collaboration with each other and the public. The NHS counter fraud community across England and Wales is using the TV series as the perfect ‘news hook’ to talk to local and regional media and the general public about their work.

Health workers and the public are being urged to seize the moment and report it now if they have any suspicion of fraud against the NHS, which can be done anonymously. They can do so by using the NHS online and telephone FCRL (Fraud and Corruption Reporting Line), details also below.

All Fraud Squad episodes will air at 10am on BBC One, on these dates:
