Two talented Walsall College Hairdressing students have reached the final of Francesco Group’s Spotlight competition, which is open to students from the Group’s college partners, to encourage budding young hairdressers to showcase their talent.

To get a place in this final, which takes place on Monday 3rd April in Birmingham, students had to submit photographic entries of their commercial looks. Francesco Group received hundreds of entries and only 15, including Level 3 students, Jessica Hargreaves and Deimante Berzanskyte from Walsall College, were chosen to go through to compete in the live heat.

During the final, contestants will have one hour to style their models with a commercial cut and colour, before a panel of judges mark their efforts on imagination, creativity and talent.

Head of Curriculum for Hairdressing at Walsall College, Amanda Richards said: “Having two of our students make it through to represent the college in the final is a fantastic achievement and we wish them the best of luck on the day.

“Taking part in competitions is a great way for students to test their skills against their peers, push their creativity and talents to the next level and reach their full potential in the competitive hairdressing industry.”

Walsall College formed a partnership with Francesco Group 18 years ago and was one of the first college’s to do so.

Amanda added: “Our partnership with the group ensures our students have opportunities to work side by side with industry experts in a state-of-the-art salon and with market leading technology.

“This will help them to develop their commercial skills and support their transition into the workplace.”
