David Wilson Homes has supported Benson United Football Club as its members donned their new running gear to partake in the esteemed Oxford Half Marathon.

The developer sponsored the running tops of four dedicated coaches from the club, who took on the challenge to not only improve their fitness, but also to raise funds for its children's football club facing financial difficulties. The participants included Chairman and Under-8s Coach Danny O’Driscoll (43), Under-7s Coach Matt Ploszynski (30), Under-9s Coach Joe Flower (43), and Under-8s Coach James Oliver (37).

Despite varying levels of experience, including Danny's first-time participation, the team delivered impressive performances, thoroughly enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of the event. The star runner of the team, Matt Ploszynski, achieved a personal best and completed the marathon in an outstanding one hour and 19 minutes, while the rest of the team impressively clocked in around the two-hour mark.

Danny said: “It was a great atmosphere to run in front of a large crowd through the city.

“We have the bug for running now as we’ve all signed up to do it again next year, and a couple of us have signed up to run the Reading Half Marathon in April. We are not all quite ready for a full marathon yet but watch this space."

With Benson United Football Club being based close to the housebuilder’s Chiltern Grange development in Benson, David Wilson Homes has proudly supported the club’s events over the course of six months. Campbell Gregg, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “We are thrilled to have sponsored Benson United Football Club in its participation in the Oxford Half Marathon.

“We believe in the importance of community support and promoting a healthy lifestyle. This initiative aligns with our values, and we commend the coaches for their dedication and impressive performances.”
