SIAN Computers Community Initiative C.I.C, a revered community IT firm in Wolverhampton, is set to host a transformative event - the Windrush Experience & Compensation Scheme Event.

SIAN Computers Community Initiative C.I.C Founder, Robert Allen, embarked on this crucial initiative after realising the uphill battle faced by many Windrush Generation individuals who struggled with the Windrush compensation process. Recognising the need for accessible support, SIAN Computers stepped up and secured a contract as a support service with We Are Digital (WAD), who work in partnership with the Home Office, to aid those seeking justice and compensation.

The seminar emerges from the shadows of the Windrush Scandal, an episode that left British Caribbean communities grappling with injustice. Rooted in political missteps that unfolded in 2017, the scandal tragically subjected people to unlawful detention, denial of legal rights, and wrongful deportation. The scars of the 83 wrongful deportations by the Home Office are still deeply felt.

The event's significance deepens as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of the Windrush (1948-1971), a time when half a million Commonwealth citizens bolstered post-war Britain. Despite the announcement of a national Compensation Scheme in December 2018, only a negligible 5% of deserving individuals received restitution by November 2021. Heartbreakingly, 23 eligible individuals passed away before receiving rightful compensation.

At its core, the seminar aspires to raise consciousness about the Windrush Experience and the Compensation Scheme, actively supported by the UK Home Office and the City of Wolverhampton Council. Keynote speakers include the UK Home Office, representing a united front to rectify past wrongs, Jane Stevenson MP of Wolverhampton North East, The City of Wolverhampton Council adds its weight, and Windrush communities share poignant testimonies to clarify the scheme's objectives and dispel misinformation.

This poignant event, scheduled for Wednesday, 6th September 2023 at Grand Station, Sun Street, Wolverhampton, WV10 0BF stands as a beacon of support and justice for the Windrush Generation.

The Windrush Compensation Scheme, a symbol of reparative justice, endeavors to provide solace to those who suffered due to their inability to establish their lawful status in the UK – often dubbed the "Windrush Generation."
