London and Paris have been named Europe's most popular cities for solo travellers looking for a like-minded travel companion, beating competition from other top destinations such as Rome and Barcelona. The figures released by travel dating app tourbar.com positions London just behind Paris, after it attracted 347 TourBar members between January and March.

TourBar is a social media network and mobile app that aims to match solo travellers with a travel companion, and based on their new figures other favourite European cities such as Prague, Amsterdam, Rome and Barcelona all lag behind London and Paris' offering.

London narrowly missed out on the top spot, which was taken by Paris, but with its rich history, stunning architecture and cosmopolitan buzz, London makes the perfect city break for travellers looking to meet a fellow solo companion to join them on a trip. Whether new partners are culture vultures, foodies or history buffs, the UK's capital city offers something for everyone, ensuring first date conversation will never run dry.

Figures also released by TourBar suggest the most popular reason for its members to travel to London is for a weekend break (23%). Following that, sightseeing and taking a bus tour was the second most popular reason to visit the city (21%)*1. This was followed by 15% of users looking to visit London for its vast shopping offering, with business trips following closely behind, counting for 9% of those TourBar members heading to London alone. TourBar has rounded up a selection of top activities to try out for those making a trip to London alone to meet a new partner.
