McVitie's Ginger Nuts are back on sale, almost exactly four months after the site was affected by the floods in Northern England last year. Household favourites including McVitie's Ginger Nuts, Custard Creams and Bourbons, along with a number of other products under the McVitie's, Jacob's, Carr's and Crawford's brands, will be returning to supermarket shelves across the UK. Production at the factory was halted on 5th December due to substantial flood damage to the electrical equipment and ovens caused by Storm Desmond in northern England.

After being submerged in 39.2 million litres of water, 540 tonnes of debris was cleared from the factory to allow for normal production to commence.

Mark Taylor, Manufacturing Director at United Biscuits said:

“It's four months almost to the day since the flooding and we're delighted that loyal consumers and fans of our products will be able to enjoy their favourite biscuits again, including our famous McVitie's Ginger Nuts. We know how popular our brands are and how disappointing it has been waiting their return; we appreciate everyone's patience in bearing with us.

“Over the past four months we've come together to get the factory back up and running as quickly as possible. Full production has now resumed, we couldn't be happier or more thankful to everyone that has helped and supported us in getting the factory back up and running!”
