Jan Luyken Amsterdam is a 62-bedroom boutique townhouse hotel in the heart of Amsterdam that has relaunched following a multi-million-pound refurbishment. Jan Luyken invites guests to enjoy the townhouse and its spaces as if they were their own, with everything they need included.
Located where the Museum Quarter meets the city's most elegant shopping street (The PC), Jan Luyken provides an ideal base for cultural explorers to the capital: The iconic Museum district, home to the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum, as well as the Concertgebouw (widely recognised as one of the world's finest concert halls), are all a short walk away. Originally built as three residential houses in 1899 by architect P. van der Vliet, Jan Luyken's namesake derives from its location on Jan Luijkenstraat named after the 17th-century Amsterdam master poet and etcher Jan Luyken.
Inspired by the vibrancy of the city and Dutch craftsmanship, the welcoming interiors of the ground floor communal spaces have recently been revamped by Amsterdam based interior design studio; Nicemakers. The ethos and design of the townhouse encourages guests to make themselves at home and use the spaces for rest, work and play, when and how they wish. Upon arrival guests will feel instantly at ease as the ground floor layout mirrors a private home, with hand sourced vintage and contemporary pieces from the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy adding a truly unique style throughout.
Sitting in the heart of the townhouse is the library which overlooks a private house garden where guests can relax al fresco. A nod to the nearby Rijksmuseum - the national museum of The Netherlands dedicated to Dutch arts and history - a large selection of art books line the shelves.
The townhouse's kitchen offers a relaxed, open-plan space to use throughout the day, just like at home, featuring handmade tiles, a sharing table and sofa nook. Breakfast will feature a selection of morning favourites - showcasing the best of local, seasonal produce and artisanal pastries. Home-made snacks and refreshments are available throughout the day, including coffee, tea, and juices, as well as self-serve drinks featuring a selection of house red and white wine and local bottled beer. Cocktails from Craftails – a range of ready-to-serve cocktails selected by Belgium's best bartenders – are also available freshly chilled.
Whatever your workout of choice, a home gym provides a space for movement. Luxury handcrafted wooden gym equipment from NOHrD is available for cardio and strength-based exercise and there is floor space for mat based activity. Textured cork walls combined with floor to ceiling windows looking out to the garden have been designed to inspire the best workout. House bicycles are also included for those who wish to explore the city as locals do.
Bedrooms feature textured, natural fabrics in vibrant warm tones and supremely comfortable beds with thoughtfully chosen bed linen, and soft furnishings made in Amsterdam from Elle La and Bonnie Barlag. Stylish drip coffee makers, fluffy robes and CODAGE amenities in modern bathrooms complete the stay.
By incorporating the efficiency of mobile check-in and the convenience of a digital key, the need for a traditional 'check-in' experience is removed, enabling house hosts to welcome guests in a manner that resembles the warm and relaxing reception received when visiting a friend's home. House hosts are discreetly on hand at all times to check guests in, share local knowledge and ensure the best stay experience.
