With only a couple of weeks left of the football season, Brits have spent countless hours glued to their screens watching how every minute unfolds, along with the expert analysis that follows.

But which of these experts may have more people tuning in than others for their looks rather than their insight? A new study by TipMan Tips has investigated exactly that, looking at male pundits across the most popular networks to discover who’s scoring with the British public. Analysing the golden ratio score of their features, their height, and the popularity of negative comments on Reddit, TipMan Tips has given each of the 44 pundits they’ve looked into a score out of 10, with Peter Crouch topping the list.

One of the biggest figures in Stoke City’s history, Crouch, unsurprisingly, got top marks for his height, along with excellent scores when it came to online sentiment around him. His golden ratio score of 7.39 placed him firmly in the middle of the pack, but excelling in the other areas had him head and shoulders above the competition.

Most well-known for his 11-season stint at Arsenal and regular appearances on Soccer Saturday, Paul Merson landed himself in 2nd place with a score of 8.56. He scored well when it came to the golden ratio, receiving an 8.12, but missed out on the top spot thanks to having double the amount of upvotes on negative Reddit comments than Crouch. A veteran of various top-flight clubs, the bronze medal goes to Joleon Lescott. A regular contributor to TNT’s coverage, Lescott scored well across the board, with an especially small amount of buzz around negative Reddit comments.

Whilst they weren’t high enough to secure the 2nd or 1st positions, he still rounds out the top 3 in style. Some other notable scores from the top 10 include former midfielder Tim Sherwood, who received the highest golden ratio score with 8.85, and regular Sky Sports pundit Michael Dawson, who received just 28 upvotes on negative Reddit comments about him.

Shifting attention to the bottom of the table, and it’s Gary Neville who’s been having a rough season. With an overall score of just 4.17, the Manchester United legend was almost 2 full points behind the place ahead, mostly thanks to his social media sentiment score. At 7416 upvotes on negative Reddit comments, Neville was far and away the pundit with the most negativity online, being the main contributor in landing him in last place on the list.

Taking home the trophy for the highest golden ratio score is former Blackburn Rovers captain Tim Sherwood, achieving an 8.85 to beat out fellow Rovers alumn Danny Murphy, who ranked 24th despite a golden ratio score of 8.77. Meanwhile, some of the most interesting scores on the list go to one of the best goalkeepers the game has ever seen. Peter Schmeichel achieved the lowest golden ratio score, with just 5.29, which would’ve otherwise put him towards the tail end of the list.

However, he also saw only a single upvote on negative comments about him on Reddit, which helped to cement him as not just 13th place on the list, but also as one of the most respected former players and current pundits around.
