Roll out the red carpet and cue the music as the ‘Oscars’ of the fish frying industry prepare to return for their 28th year. The National Fish & Chip Awards have cast their net far and wide having trawled the nation for the last year, and are now set to make or break the hearts of friers from around the country as they announce the UK’s best fish and chip businesses on January 20 at the Lancaster London Hotel.

The flagship Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award, which currently has a top ten regional shortlist, is the most hotly contested category with the eventual winner being named the best fish and chip takeaway in the UK.

Mel Groundsell, Corporate Relations Director of Seafish, comments: “The high level of standards and professionalism embedded within the businesses participating in this year’s awards has been outstanding.

“I’d like to offer up my congratulations to all of our finalists and wish them the very best as they vie to be crowned a winner, but also thank them for upholding our high industry standards and helping us to reinforce the UK’s reputation as the home of the world’s best fish and chips.”

The aim of the National Fish & Chip Awards is to showcase the very best fish and chip businesses and individuals in the UK while setting incredibly high standards for the industry to continually aspire to.

Growing from a single award in 1988 to now encompass over a dozen categories, the awards showcase a diverse range of accolades that cater for every aspect of running a successful fish and chip business, recognising everything from traditional takeaways to mobile operators to excellence in training and responsible sourcing.

Recognised as one of the most prominent and respected seafood industry events in the UK, the awards provide the perfect platform to celebrate the great British tradition of fish and chips.
