Award-winning safari specialist Real Africa raised over £8,500 for conservation charity Save The Elephants at its sell-out 15th Anniversary event, held at the Royal Geographical Society in London last Thursday. Special guest, wildlife filmmaker and conservationist, Saba Douglas-Hamilton, took to the stage of the Ondaatje Theatre for well over an hour captivating the packed theatre with tales of her childhood growing up in Africa, her career in film and television and about her role in the conservation of Africa's wildlife.
VIP guests included high profile members of the travel industry and media, who all gathered in the Map Room for networking drinks prior to the talk which commenced at 7pm. A group of sixth form students, all geographers, were also in attendance after being invited by Real Africa to represnt the coonservationists of the future.
This was the first of a series of events to promote the work of Save The Elephants during the autumn and winter months. The tailor-made safari specialist will also be representing the charity at a number of consumer travel shows and is hopeful of raising £10,000 during the course of their partnership.
On the night, a competition to win a safari to Elephant Watch Camp, Saba's home and location of recent BBC series This Wild Life, was officially launched with Real Africa's long-standing industry partner, Kenya Airways. The prize for two lucky people includes a 3 night stay at Elephant Watch Camp and a chance to witness the work of Save The Elephants first –hand with a visit to their pioneering research centre in Samburu.
