A bigger and permanent weekly market will return to Tottenham Green this summer boasting the best independent food and drink after the huge success of a six-week Haringey Council trial last year. The revamped Tottenham Green Market will run on Saturdays throughout the summer, with dozens of stalls offering everything from sumptuous street food to local produce and arts and crafts.

The first event will run from 10am-5pm on Saturday 18 July, alongside the council’s annual Tottenham Conference – which gives local people a chance to find out about progress on the 20-year regeneration plan for the area.

Marika Gauci, whose (now) monthly Chestnuts Market has attracted scores of shoppers since launching earlier this year, will run the new Tottenham Green Market and has already secured a diverse range of stallholders.

She said: “I’m very excited to be involved in Tottenham Green Market this year. We've been working hard to bring Tottenham a good mix of street food, makers and designers from the local area and further afield. I can’t wait to get the party started!”

The improved market follows the stunning £1.5million refurbishment of Tottenham Green by the council and the Greater London Authority, which was completed earlier this year.

Improvements include a new play area alongside new lighting, paths, benches and trees around some of the area’s most historic buildings such as Tottenham Town Hall and the Bernie Grant Arts Centre.

Making the most of Tottenham’s great spaces to give local people and businesses better opportunities to meet up, shop and have fun is one of seven key priorities in the council’s 20-year regeneration plan for the area.

Spaces remain for traders who want to take a regular stall at the new market – especially for bread and arts and crafts businesses.
