While Caribbean tourism stakeholders continue to glow in the aftermath of Wednesday’s World Travel Awards (WTA) Caribbean & The Americas Gala Ceremony 2022 at Sandals Montego Bay in Jamaica, a small resort in the Turks and Caicos Islands is beaming with pride for copping two prized awards during the evening’s celebrations. The high-end, sustainability-focused Sailrock Resort on South Caicos was not only recognized for the third successive year as the Caribbean’s Leading Luxury Island Resort, but for the first time, the property captured Turks & Caicos’ Leading Resort honour.

“This is an especially impressive result for the entire Sailrock team,” said managing director and veteran hotelier Kashmie Ali, who was elated to see the attention being placed on Turks and Caicos as a destination for its quality vacation experiences as well as its investment appeal. Turks and Caicos, which was voted the Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination and the Caribbean’s Most Romantic Destination, was recently named by Tripadvisor as the number one destination in the world with the biggest year-on-year increase in searches by Americans for travel this fall.

Jamaica had a strong night at the awards event, picking up the Caribbean’s Leading Destination, the Caribbean’s Leading Nature Destination, the Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Destination, and the Caribbean’s Leading Tourist Board recognitions; St. Lucia emerged as the Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination and Leading Adventure Tourism Destination; The Bahamas took the award for the Caribbean’s Leading Luxury Island Destination; Cuba was adjudged the Caribbean’s Leading Cultural Destination; and St. Kitts & Nevis was recognized as the Caribbean’s Leading Dive Destination.

Sandals Resorts International took the undisputed title of the Caribbean’s Leading Hotel Brand and was heralded for its Outstanding Contribution to the Hospitality & Tourism Industry. The evening marked the opening leg of the WTA Grand Tour 2022 – an international search for the finest travel and tourism organizations in the world.
