Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Sindh Branch has organized First Aid Training for Journalists on the occasion of celebrating World Red Cross Red Crescent Day. This was the fifth annual training at Karachi Press Club organized for Journalists. The training was attended by more than 100 journalists including cameramen, health and crime reporters and office bearers of Karachi Press Club where they were taught how to save lives in emergency situations.

“Pakistan Red Crescent Society is highly committed in providing basic health and First Aid facilities to maximum people of the country to deal with emergencies, hence for a series of training/workshops are being conducted at national and regional levels”, said PRCS, Sindh Chairperson Mrs. Farzana Naek while addressing to the closing ceremony of the training.

She further said that the PRCS has an emergency ambulance service along with a trained emergency response team which is being deployed when and where needed. These emergency response services have come to play a crucial role in saving lives. She emphasized that first aid training is very important for media practitioners whether they are in field or at home. She thanked to Karachi Press and invites all media organizations to collaboratively organize full fledge first aid training for journalists and their staff.

Mrs. Naek urged the journalists of Karachi to come forward and joined hands with PRCS as registered volunteer and serve for the vulnerable segments of the society. Earlier while inaugurating the workshop, Provincial Media Officer of the Red Crescent Aftab Madni in his welcome address emphasised the importance of the subject and said that the Accidents, bomb blasts and other emergencies are frequent, and journalists are generally the first to arrive at the scene. If they know the basics of first aid, they can save many lives while also protecting themselves.

A team of Red Crescent trainers Saqib Ahmed, Immad and Yusra Khan conducted the training and said that first aid training course in Karachi Press Club is organized to learn simple skills which could make all the difference if an emergency happened on their doorstep. The training course taken just few hours but it given participants the knowledge and confidence to become lifesavers if a colleague, friend or family member falls ill or is injured, and they are called upon to help.

The course covered common first aid scenarios including what to do if someone is choking, unconscious or bleeding, and how to treat a burn or fracture. It will also help participants spot the warning signs of a heart attack or stroke, and give them the tools to step in and act.

The Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jamil, Secretary Health Committee Mr. Hamid ur Rehman and Governing Body members appreciated the efforts of Sindh Red Crescent for organizing First Aid Training for journalists. In last, all participants and Management of Karachi Press Club were awarded participation certificates and First Aid Boxes.
