Oxfordshire developer Barratt and David Wilson Homes Southern has supported Grove Rugby Football Club (RFC) with contributions towards two community events that brought local families together and encouraged young people to get involved in sport.
The developer, which is currently building new homes nearby at Brookside Meadows in Grove, gifted a £200 donation towards the club’s Minis Rugby Festival, as well as a £200 contribution to its Fireworks Night and Mini Festival. The Minis Rugby Festival welcomed players from the under-7 to under-12 age groups, offering mixed-ability rugby in line with Rugby Football Union (RFU) Age Grade Rules.
All participants benefited from equal playing time under the Half Game Rule, while the event celebrated the RFU core values of TREDS – Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship – which Grove RFC actively promotes. Families attending the festival enjoyed a full day of rugby, with refreshments including breakfast, teas and coffees, alongside catering throughout the event.
Barratt and David Wilson Homes also supported the club’s Fireworks Night and Mini Festival, a family-friendly community celebration featuring a display by Illusion Fireworks, a funfair and a range of food and drink stalls. Nigel Dixey, Chairman at Grove RFC, said: “Our minis festival at Grove RFC was a huge success with around 950 children taking part across the day.
“A special thank you must also go to all our generous sponsors, including Barratt and David Wilson Homes. The sponsors’ support is invaluable – not just for these events, but for grassroots rugby as a whole.
“Their investment in youth sport and community activities is helping to shape the next generation in ways that go far beyond the rugby field.” The donations helped support the organisation and running costs of both events, contributing to the club’s mission to promote junior rugby participation while also creating opportunities for the wider community to come together.
Campbell Gregg, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “As a leading developer building brand-new homes at Brookside Meadows in Grove, we’re proud to support community events like those organised by Grove RFC.
“It’s fantastic to see so many young players enjoying the sport, learning new skills and having fun, while events such as the Fireworks Night bring local families together.” For information on the new homes being built in the area, visit the websites at Barratt Homes at Brookside Meadows or David Wilson Homes at Brookside Meadows.
