Black Country Chamber of Commerce held a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event to highlight the work businesses can do to engage with charities, sponsored by E R Grove. They have a blend of qualified accountants and business advisers with years of professional experience. For charities, in addition to the audit, accounts, tax and VAT requirements, there is a need to understand the latest developments in governance and trustee responsibilities. E R Grove’s advisers will also ensure that challenges are overcome and all opportunities can be exploited. E R Grove provides an extensive range of services tailored to the needs of clients in the charity sector and draws on experience from their comprehensive not-for-profit client base, which among others includes the Peoples Orchestra.

The event, held at The Way Youth Zone, was aimed at pulling together local businesses with charities to see how they can support their needs and encourage best practice. Charities also need the support of local businesses to run their business, so the working relationship goes both ways. Talks from six speakers, covered a variety of subject areas including the use of volunteering and initiatives such as the Diamond Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Zoe Bennett from Training Personified explained: “I found the CSR event that the Black Country Chamber hosted was very informative and a great way to meet likeminded business people and companies. The day afforded the right amount of information to educate as well as to make valuable connections that in turn will inevitably help others. As the founder of the Midlands Business and Community Charity Awards 2016 and owner of Training Personified I found this event very worthwhile.”

Attendance to the event was free and attracted over 80 businesses and charities. All delegates had the chance to network as well as learn more about CSR in the modern workplace.

Sajida Carr from Creative Black Country commented: “As usual Black Country Chamber events are always welcoming and an opportunity to meet new connections. The bingo game really put everyone at ease and was a great way to mix up corporate and charities.”

Black Country Chamber of Commerce would like to thank E R Grove for sponsoring the event, Wolverhampton Racecourse for the use of tables for the stands, JJX for transporting the tables, Joe Maggs from Walsall Housing Group for the very successful bingo networking game, The Way Youth Zone for hosting the event and all our speakers.
