CARIFESTA XV, the Caribbean Festival of the Arts, opens this week in Barbados under the theme “Caribbean Roots; Global Excellence”.
Far more than a showcase of the present, CARIFESTA XV, to be held August 22-31, represents a significant investment in the region’s cultural future. Moving beyond the traditional 10-day festival model, organizers have launched a five-year Legacy Program designed to ensure that the creative energy, strategic partnerships, and cultural dialogue generated during the event lead to tangible, sustainable growth for artists and cultural industries across the Caribbean.
“During CARIFESTA XV, you’ll see us bringing our culture and traditions, both time-honoured and contemporary, to life through every kind of artistic expression imaginable,” said Festival Director Carol Roberts.
“We’re throwing open our doors to welcome everyone here to Barbados and those joining us online too. We are very aware that we’re hosting this gathering at a time when our region is particularly vulnerable, especially to the forces of nature.
“But choosing to celebrate now, in this context, is itself a powerful statement about our inherent resilience and our boundless creativity.”
