The team at Newmedica Birmingham is celebrating after the company climbed 17 positions in the annual list of top 50 UK’s Best Workplaces™.

The 2026 list of UK businesses that made the cut was announced at the Best Workplaces Awards held at Grosvenor House in London, with Newmedica named 28th in the Large category. While Newmedica was recognised in the awards for ensuring that patients receive the best care, it was also applauded for investing significantly in nurturing its talented team.

Newmedica Birmingham, which received a 92% positive score from its staff, provides a variety of ophthalmology services, including treatment for cataracts and other eye conditions. The clinic offers private treatment and services on behalf of the NHS, helping to reduce waiting times and improve patient outcomes.

It is owned and led by the consultant ophthalmologists undertaking patient treatment, as well as the operations director, Rachel Hill. She said: “As eye care professionals, our priority is looking after our patients’ eyesight, and fundamental to that is creating a positive environment for our team that will allow them to thrive in their chosen field.

“We ensure we’re nurturing people at every step of their professional journey, including through our apprenticeship programmes, professional development opportunities, and encouraging strong career progression. We know that the way to do our best for our patients starts with doing the best for our employees, and it’s wonderful to see that Newmedica has been recognised for this, climbing even higher up the top 50 this year.”

The list is produced by Great Place To Work, a global authority on workplace culture. Its annual awards celebrate standout companies across four size categories, with this year’s list highlighting those leading the way in workplace culture. James Arrow, who joined Newmedica as managing director in early 2026, said: “We proudly attended the Great Place to Work awards ceremony in London. Being named 28th is an incredible jump of 17 places from last year’s 45th place.

“Just weeks into my role as Managing Director, I’m thrilled to see Newmedica recognised as one of the UK’s best workplaces. This accolade speaks volumes about the incredible dedication and passion of our colleagues, who make Newmedica such an outstanding place to work every day.’

Great Place To Work® performed rigorous evaluations of hundreds of employee survey responses alongside Culture Audit™ submissions from leaders at each company to create the 2026 UK's Best Workplaces™ list. It then used these data insights to benchmark the effectiveness of companies' employee value propositions against the culture their employees actually experience.

Only those businesses that achieve the highest scores after evaluation receive Best Workplaces™ status.
