John Taylor Hospice has launched a brand new way to raise funds by introducing a weekly lottery draw. The Birmingham-based hospice has teamed up with Your Hospice Lottery to offer people the chance to win weekly cash prizes whilst raising vital funds for hospice care. For just £1 per entry to the weekly draw, lottery members have the chance to win one of 136 guaranteed prizes ranging from £10 to £1,000. There is also the addition of a rollover jackpot which, if not won, goes up by £250 each week - up to an amazing £10,000!

John Taylor Chief Executive Penny Venables said: “Many of our supporters have asked us for a hospice lottery so we’re very excited to be launching one. Members will be in with a chance to win cash prizes and it’s a fun and easy way for people to support hospice care in their local community.

“All of the money we raise from the lottery will be used to provide specialist palliative and end of life care both at the hospice and in the community. It will make a huge difference to patients and their loved ones.”

John Taylor Hospice has been at the heart of communities for more than 100 years caring for generations of families. Both at the hospice in Birmingham and in the local community, care is ‘Taylor-made’ to the individual ensuring people receive support how, where and when they need it.

That care and support may involve 24-hour care at the hospice, day services, counselling and well-being and a range of specialist services including nursing and practical care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy and complementary therapies.

Hospice staff have also shown their support for the lottery with many having already signed up for their chance to win. Among the first staff members to get their unique six digit membership numbers are Estelle Challenger and Denise Moore - both members of John Taylor’s Housekeeping Team – who have worked at the hospice for 13 years and 10 years respectively.

Estelle said: “We both really enjoy working here and know the money raised from the lottery will generate much-needed income. It’s a great idea and helps to ensure John Taylor Hospice continues to provide vital services for local families.”

Your Hospice Lottery is run by St Helena Hospice in Colchester and raises money for other hospices but players choose which hospice to support with their membership. By working in collaboration with the other hospices, overheads and costs are kept to a minimum so more funds can be used to support children and their families.

Alex Howe, Head of Lottery at Your Hospice Lottery, added: “We are delighted to be able to announce that we will be providing a brand new way of supporting John Taylor Hospice via our lottery service.

“You can either sign up with one of our friendly fundraisers who will be out and about in the West Midlands or online by visiting www.yourhospicelottery.org.uk. We really hope that we can help John Taylor to raise as much as possible to support the vital services of the hospice.”
