Star striker and football pundit, Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, is joining forces with England and Premier League legend, David James MBE, as Utilita’s newest cost-of-living champion. As an official Utilita ambassador, Courtney will catapult Utilita’s Football Rebooted movement even further, which aims to get a million pairs of good quality football boots onto the feet of those who need them and away from landfill.

Courtney’s first role as a representative will be attending the Girls Cup Area Final in Walsall tomorrow (Monday 16 January). Schools from the Midlands and the South will be competing on behalf of their local EFL club, including Birmingham City and Watford, to progress to the next round - and one step closer to playing at Wembley.

Courtney will also play an integral role in delivering Utilita’s Energy High 5 movement, which helps households to save hundreds on their energy bills. She said: “I’ve worked with Utilita on a few occasions before and seen the difference they are making across football and the energy industry.

“It is an honour to be named as an ambassador and with the cost-of-living crisis continuing, there’s no better time to promote and support the Football Rebooted initiative and the High 5 campaign. I’m eager to kick things off with the Utilita team, working alongside some incredible people, including goalkeeping legend David James.

“I have no doubt we can inspire even more youngsters to try out the Beautiful Game, as well as help families significantly slash their energy bills. Roll on the Girls Cup Area Final on Monday – I can’t wait to meet our future Lionesses!”

David James MBE has been a Utilita ambassador since 2019 when he launched the ‘Switch Before Pitch’ campaign, which has helped thousands of grassroots clubs cut their energy usage and buy kit instead – he comments: “Utilita is making serious progress in helping football fans think and act differently.

“Instead of a big budget advertising campaign, Utilita is enlisting players to co-create campaigns and advice that are simple, relatable, practical, but most importantly, impactful. I’m really excited about Courtney joining Utilita’s net zero journey – her involvement will really boost the impact we can have across the girls’ and women’s’ game.”

Former Liverpool and Everton forward Courtney will also be recognised for her work as a pundit, reporter and co-commentator across networks including ITV, Sky Sports, DAZN and Talksport. Jem Maidment, Chief Marketing Officer at Utilita, said: “We had our targets set on just one person to become our new ambassador – and thankfully she accepted.

“I’ve been blown away by Courtney’s passion and genuine desire when we have worked together in the past, which is why I’m so delighted to have her on side. Here’s to another year of making a difference in both the energy sector and the footballing world.”
