The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), the region’s tourism development agency, will announce today how the Caribbean’s tourism sector performed in 2015. CTO’s secretary general Hugh Riley will reveal the numbers at a news conference at the organization’s headquarters in Barbados. An analysis of the numbers will also be done by the acting director of research, Ryan Skeete.

Caribbean tourism registered a record performance in 2014, welcoming 26.3 million visitors - a 5.3per cent rise over the previous year – who spent an estimated  US$29.2 billion, itself a record.

In making the announcement at a similar news conference, the CTO had predicted a four to five per cent rise in 2015.

Tomorrow’s news conference will be streamed live (visit www.onecaribbean.org for information on how to follow the live feed), while media and the general public will be able to engage the CTO officials on social media using the hashtag #CTOSTATS16. The event can also be followed on Periscope.

The CTO press briefing begins at 11:00 AM Eastern Caribbean Time (10:00 AM in New York and Jamaica, 3:00 PM in the UK).
