Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) has released fresh CGI visuals of the much-anticipated Dudley Interchange, offering the public a glimpse into the interior of a facility set to redefine how residents and visitors move through the heart of the Black Country.
Due to open in Spring 2026, the £multi-million project promises more than just a new transport hub. It offers hope, convenience, and a powerful symbol of Dudley's regeneration journey.
Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, summed it up: “Close to £1bn is being invested in the regeneration of Dudley town centre.
“This new Interchange, with its sleek, modern design, will offer visitors a quality experience and act as a vital gateway to our growing town. Dudley is on the rise, and I’m backing that renaissance with better transport links, investment in jobs, and affordable homes.”
The new interchange, being constructed by Taylor Woodrow, will serve as a direct link between bus services and the new Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension, seamlessly connecting communities to job opportunities, education, and shopping destinations like Merry Hill, Birmingham, and Wolverhampton.
The state-of-the-art facility will feature:
- Spacious, two-storey structure with modern design and comfortable waiting areas
- Real-time travel info screens, improved accessibility, and safety features
- Eco-conscious design supporting the region’s net-zero carbon ambition
- Integrated connections to the wider West Midlands Metro network
But it’s not just about the brick and mortar. It’s about Dudley people, and that’s what TfWM is keen to reflect in every corner of the project.
In a refreshing move, TfWM plans to actively engage with local schools, colleges, historians, artists, and community groups to embed Dudley's rich industrial heritage and multicultural spirit into the building's interior design. Jo Shore, TfWM’s Delivery Director, explained: “We firmly believe that this should be more than a transport hub. It should reflect the identity and pride of Dudley.
“We’re excited to co-create with local voices to make it a warm, welcoming space for everyone.” The team’s approach puts the community at the heart of infrastructure—a step that aligns closely with The Phoenix Newspaper’s own mission of representing everyday voices.
Councillor Patrick Harley, Leader of Dudley Council, sees the Interchange as a vital puzzle piece in the town’s evolution: “It will make a monumental difference to those living, working, and visiting our borough.
“These images show our ambition—a prosperous, connected future for Dudley.” To bring residents into the conversation, TfWM is also hosting a Spring Fair on Saturday, June 14 at Birdcage Walk, right in the heart of Dudley.
Locals will be able to meet the project team, learn more about the development, and support local traders in a community-centred celebration. This event serves not only as a showcase for the new interchange, but as a signal that progress is happening with the people, not just for them.
The Dudley Interchange project forms part of a larger transformation vision championed by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), investing billions in better transport, new homes, green jobs, and regeneration.
At its core, this vision champions:
- Jobs for everyone – with apprenticeships, skills training, and youth employment at the forefront.
- Homes for everyone – building affordable, sustainable places to live.
- Growth for everyone – ensuring prosperity reaches every household and business.
- Journeys for everyone – making daily life more connected, affordable, and accessible.
For Dudley, that vision is finally taking shape. From a place that once symbolised industrial decline, Dudley is now becoming a blueprint for modern connectivity, where infrastructure meets identity, and transport reflects transformation.
