City partners have hailed the success of the Enjoy Wolverhampton ten-day programme. Thousands of residents and visitors were enticed to the city’s venues and attractions by a host of free and purse-friendly activities and offers between July 1 and 10. Highlights saw Wolverhampton Racecourse double their usual Tuesday afternoon race attendance, Wolves Museum host more than 400 people in a day; and a free tour of Bank’s Brewery book up within hours.
The programme showcased Wolverhampton’s offer of leisure, music, theatre, arts, sport, culture, and heritage. Wolverhampton Racecourse Commercial Sales Director, Jan Denning, said: “We are proud to be a partner in this initiative and it was wonderful to see so many new faces at the racecourse. “We shall continue to work with partners across the city to exploit the many opportunities there are to bring more visitors to the city to enjoy Wolverhampton and create jobs.”
A host of special offers were provided by city centre businesses so that visitors could take advantage of delicious food and drink at a lower cost, shop until they drop, or try out a new hairstyle for less. City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Economy, Councillor John Reynolds, said: “The visitor programme proves what a vibrant, thriving city Wolverhampton is with plenty to offer every day of the year.
“Around 50 partners were involved in delivering the programme of events and as a result hundreds of people have visited the cities attractions, many for the first time. “Many activities were free or purse friendly, indoor and outdoor, showcasing that the city has something to offer everyone of any age, every day, whatever the weather. “I’d like to thank all the partners and businesses who supported this annual initiative.”
Cherry Shine, Wolverhampton Business Improvement District (BID) Director, said: “The full programme of events, places to visit and things to see and do that the visitor programme pulled together is just a snapshot of all the amazing things there are to do in Wolverhampton all year round. “A fantastic range of venues and activities cater for comedy, music, racing, speedway, theatre, and independent cinema, alongside a wide range of national and independent shops, restaurants and bars.
“Wolverhampton is a thoroughly vibrant city. Keep your eyes on the enjoy Wolverhampton website and Facebook pages for up and coming attractions.”
