An important step in securing the future of Hornsey Town Hall has been taken after Haringey Council accepted the final bids for a programme that will secure a long-term and sustainable future for the historic building. Haringey Council will assess all bids before making a final recommendation to its Cabinet by the end of this year. The bidders are being assessed on strict criteria including community use, business plan and planning strategy.
Haringey Council has been working with a charity run by local residents, the Hornsey Town Hall Creative Trust, to ensure bidders incorporate community access as a key component of their final proposal, which will include continued public access to the town hall square. Members of the Hornsey Town Hall Creative Trust have been involved in the process to date and will now be involved in the evaluation of the final bids which will lead to the Council appointing the final partner.
Cllr Alan Strickland, Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration said:
“Today marks an important step in our work to protect Hornsey Town Hall and fulfil our guarantee that the square will remain a beautiful green space open to the public. We will carefully assess the bids over the coming months and make a final recommendation to Cabinet later in the year.
‘I want to reiterate that we will not allow any housing or large-scale development on the green and we’ve made it a fundamental guarantee that all bids must allow community access to the iconic building, keep the square publicly accessible and support the local economy.”
