Leading developer Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands has made a donation of £1,000 to cancer charity, Lauren’s Legacy.
Heage-based Lauren’s Legacy was formed in August 2019 in memory of Lauren Elliott, who sadly passed away at the age of 22 after a five-year battle with Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer. The charity is run by Lauren’s parents and friends.
They support teenagers and young adults undergoing cancer treatment by granting wishes such as family holidays, concert tickets, and iPads.
After three years of fundraising, Lauren’s Legacy was able to purchase a holiday home for those going through cancer treatments, as well as their families. Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ donation has been put towards furnishing the house to make it comfortable for the visiting families.
Elaine Elliott, Secretary of Lauren’s Legacy and Lauren’s mother, said: “We were extremely happy to have been nominated for the donation in the first place, but we couldn’t believe it when we found out we had been successful.
“Lauren’s Legacy and its trustees are extremely grateful to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for their generous donation. This money has been used to provide items for our new holiday home, to make it more of a ‘home from home’ for our visitors and their families to be able to spend quality time together away from the rounds of treatments and hospital visits.”
The contribution from Barratt and David Wilson Homes is part of the developer’s monthly Community Fund scheme, which sees the developer support various charities throughout the year. With one in two people diagnosed with cancer in their lifetimes and approximately 3,755 young people in the UK diagnosed with cancer each year, charities like Lauren’s Legacy can be a vital lifeline for patients and their families as they undergo treatment.
