The Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Ian Brookfield, is hosting what is believed to be the city’s very first all-day indoor rock festival – to raise money for his chosen charities. The Wolves Mayor Rock Fest takes place at The Slade Rooms this Saturday, April 9 and Cllr Brookfield has teamed up with Facebook fan group Rockers Through The Ages to organise an event celebrating his love of rock music and showcasing some of the best upcoming rock talent in Wolverhampton. Bands that will be appearing include Piston, Bad Flowers, Bigfoot, Shyne, The New Saints and Iconic Eye.
And they will be joined by a rock DJ for what promises to be an extravaganza of music in aid of local food banks and soup kitchens, the Physiotherapy department at West Park Rehabilitation Hospital, the Kingswood Trust, Bilston Remembered and the Interfaith. A donation will also be made to Cancer Research UK.
Network Mayor Councillor Brookfield said: “This is a unique event – I can’t think of any other Mayor who has had their own rock festival. We’re looking forward to showing off the fantastic musical talent we have here in Wolverhampton and raising money for some very good causes. I’d like to thank everyone who is taking part – we have a cast of more than 100 and they are all giving their time for free.”
Doors open at 4pm and the festival continues until 2am.
