Morro Partnerships recently supported a homelessness initiative in the West Midlands through donations and volunteering.

Chapter House, an emergency homeless centre in West Bromwich managed by GreenSquareAccord (GSA) received both a garden transformation and a substantial equipment donation. The centre offers temporary housing to help individuals transition into a more permanent residence and promotes a healthier way of life for its residents.

Morro representatives spent the day transforming the garden with GSA colleagues by building planters, removing weeds and tidying up the patio and garden space. Morro provided a donation of soil for the garden tidy-up, as well as gym equipment such as boxing gloves, skipping ropes and pads to help with residents’ physical and mental health, and a tool kit for independent DIY projects within their rooms.

This garden tidy-up is part of a larger project and Morro will return in Spring 2025, with topsoil and vegetables for a larger planter, fulfilling a special request from residents at Chapter House. Sian Every, Community Investment and Social Lead at GSA, highlighted the significance of such collaborations, saying: “It’s wonderful to see how partnerships like these can make a real difference.

“The residents at Chapter House will benefit from these changes for years to come, thanks to the commitment and hard work of teams like Morro.” This donation was part of Morro’s pledge to become better community makers, and part of their social value commitment related to the developer’s nearby 147-home Swan Lane development.

In collaboration with LoCaL Homes, an award-winning offsite housing manufacturer and GSA, Morro are transforming a disused industrial site into a thriving community of affordable houses and apartments. Chris Timmins, Managing Director at Morro Partnerships, said: “We’re pleased to have supported Chapter House and the West Bromwich community through donations and volunteering to help the most vulnerable in our society.

“Morro is proud to be better community makers, and to help foster an environment where people feel empowered and supported in their journey towards permanent housing is incredibly rewarding.” Mary Doria, Project Manager at GreenSquareAccord, who oversees this contract expressed her excitement about the initiative, stating: “We’re thrilled to see the first phase of the garden project come to life.

“It's been fantastic to work with Morro on this, and we look forward to their return in the spring to complete the next stage.” This is the second time in recent weeks that Morro has supported the homeless community in the region, after employees volunteered to hand out essential food and resources in Birmingham city centre.
