CARICOM’s incoming chair and his predecessor have stressed the need for regional unity as they voiced concern about Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.

Belize’s Prime Minister John Briceno, the regional grouping’s new chairman, and outgoing chairman Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne voiced their concerns today as the Thirty-Third Inter-Sessional Meeting of CARICOM Heads opened in San Pedro, Belize.

Nigeria's government has condemned reports that its citizens, and those of other African countries, have been stopped from leaving war-torn Ukraine. One Nigerian man trying to get into Poland, said border staff told him that they were not tending to Africans.

"We've been chased back, we've been hit with police armed with sticks," he said. South African foreign office official Clayson Monyela also said students had been badly treated at the border.

Black history, to many people, means the recognition of popular African American leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, and Harriet Tubman. These figures are celebrated for their remarkable contributions to the Black community and commitment to ensuring civil rights for all.

The contributions of the Caribbean and African diaspora are often not acknowledged as Black history with many important figures remaining unknown.

The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) have taken part in an Alumni ceremony with the Ghana Investment and Securities Institute (GISI).  This celebrated the inaugural 10 students completing the licensing programme developed by GISI in partnership with the CISI in 2019.

Amongst the achievers were Chris Hammond and Andrew Ntumi. Both Chris and Andrew will also be part of CISI’s global awards for achieving the top mark globally in the International Certificate in Wealth & Investment Management and the International Introduction to Securities & Investment respectively.

As Birmingham prepares to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham Councillor Muhammad Afzal travels to Pakistan this week to promote the city and opportunities for business and tourism And as the city prepares to welcome athletes and visitors from across the Commonwealth for Birmingham 2022, he will be representing the city as he meet with businesses, charities, schools and officials in Pakistan – one of the 72 competing nations and territories.

Birmingham 2022 and CGF Partnerships have signed a licensing deal with The Royal Mint and Royal Mail to produce commemorative coins and stamps to mark the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Birmingham 2022 marks the third time the Games have been hosted in England in its ninety-two year history, and each of those Games have been commemorated through the release of collectable Royal Mail stamps and Royal Mint coins, anchoring this significant event in history and contributing to the celebration of the Commonwealth Games.

Police have clashed with demonstrators in Canada's capital, Ottawa, as they move to end a three-week anti-vaccine mandate protest, with 100 arrests made. The operation started with some officers on horseback, after the government invoked the Emergencies Act to crack down on the protest.

Some protesters who resisted were thrown to the ground and had their hands zip-tied behind their backs. Police have also accused protesters of using children as a shield.

Popular UK songs were given the symphonic treatment at Expo 2020 Dubai when the iconic Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra took to the Jubilee Stage.

World leaders have called for urgent and innovative investments to help rural communities in the world’s poorest countries adapt to climate change.  

Speaking at the opening of the annual Governing Council meeting attended by 177 Member States of the UN’s International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), leaders specifically highlighted the vulnerability of small-scale farmers to severe weather events, like the storms that devastated Madagascar in recent weeks killing at least 121 people and destroying more than 176,000 hectares of land.
