In discussions at the Deputy Prime Minister's Port Louis Offices in Mauritius, it was confirmed that there has been a 100% increase in the number of cruise passengers for the 2015/2016 season. A total of 29,000 cruise passengers have been recorded compared to 14,000 for the 2014/2015 season. Just days before the opening of the new cruise season, the Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius, Xavier-Luc Duval, who is also the island’s Tourism Minister and President of the Vanilla Islands Organization, gave an update on the positive developments in the cruise tourism industry of the Indian Ocean region.

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has announced that St. Lucia's Jade Mountain resort has become the first hotel in the Caribbean to receive the coveted LEED GOLD certification status. "Achieving LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold, as Jade Mountain has done, demonstrates an exceptional level of leadership in the industry.  I congratulate both the owners (Nick and Karolin Troubetzkoy) and the project team for this significant achievement," said Rick Fedrizzi, CEO and Founding Chairman of the USGBC.

"The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life and the extensive damage inflicted on our member countries and neighbours by the dangerous Hurricane Matthew, described as the most powerful storm to hit the Caribbean in a decade. Even in its weaker form as a tropical storm it inflicted loss. Our prayers are with the Government and People of Haiti where the death toll has soared to more than 400 and where there is still not full recovery from the destructive earthquake of 2010.

Safari specialist Real Africa has announced that it will be sponsoring the purchase, training and deployment of a Belgian Malinois dog as part of their commitment to rhino conservation. The dog will be deployed to work in an anti-poaching unit in Africa. These units are proving very effective in the battle against poaching with the dogs widely considered to be the rhino's new best friends.

The St. Kitts Tourism Authority partnered with LINKS Magazine, a premier golf lifestyle publication, to present the first annual St. Kitts & Nevis Partner Golf Classic.
