Birmingham City Council has launched a campaign for the community – Be Your Personal Best – to honour the success of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The city council is calling out for Birmingham’s residents to share their ‘personal best’ stories – the achievements and everyday acts that they take great pride in.

With a spotlight on the city, the council is actively engaging the wider community to become part of a legacy for the Proud Host City.

Councillor Ian Ward, Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: “We are on the hunt for inspirational Brummies with a story to tell.

"Everyone has something to shout about. It could be anything from playing an instrument, volunteering, having a personal record at school sports day or perhaps you’ve started your own business from a hobby. We know that Birmingham is full of personal bests, and we’re urging for Birmingham residents to take part and share their personal best stories.

“Although the campaign follows the success of the Commonwealth Games, we are keen to hear from individuals who have personal bests beyond sports. It’s about showcasing the personal achievements of individuals across the Proud Host City.”

Be Bold, Be Birmingham has worked with five inspirational Brummies to inspire the public to share their stories. These include proud Brummie and award-winning entrepreneur Tru Powell, Director at Aston Performing Arts Academy, board member at Birmingham Hippodrome and TAG Midlands.

Keith Mckenzie, an awareness campaigner, graphic designer and Salsa Dancer; Patricia and Paul from community group LoveWeoley and Nick Bailey, a Handsworth resident, professional actor and research fellow for the University of Birmingham Responsible Business. Stories will be shared across social media through feature images, quotes, and backstories from all involved.
