Birmingham Royal Ballet is today excited to announce that for one year only the Company will be bringing an exclusive adaptation of Sir David Bintley’s Royal Albert Hall production of The Nutcracker to Birmingham Hippodrome audiences this November, marking the first time this version has been performed outside London.

After 30 years Sir Peter Wright’s legendary production is currently undergoing a major renovation, thanks in large part to an astonishing level of support from Birmingham Royal Ballet audiences and Big Give Champion funding from the Reed Foundation Arts and Culture and the National Lottery Heritage Fund through the annual Christmas Big Give Appeal.

Commissioned by the Sir Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity at Birmingham City University and the Personal Managers Association with support from the Casting Director’s Guild, the survey of 1300 respondents collected between March and April paints an alarming picture of audition, casting and hair and make-up experiences. The study is believed to be the largest survey of British actors on diversity and the auditioning process to date.

Paloma Faith is about to embark on a nationwide 21 date tour for September – October 2021 in support of her latest album, ‘Infinite Things.’ 

Paloma wrote most of the songs for ‘Infinite Things’ before the Covid-19 pandemic swept the world. Then we went into lockdown, and she ripped them all up and started afresh. She spent her downtime creating, learning to engineer her own music and just thinking about the world.

A new survey has revealed that Birmingham Botanical Gardens is the most popular place in Birmingham for local people to ‘take a breath’ and connect with their lungs. The survey, commissioned by Taskforce for Lung Health, invited local residents to name their favourite city location where they can enjoy their own breathing space, as part of a brand-new awareness campaign around lung health.

Birmingham Botanical Gardens, a 15-acre garden in Edgbaston, was the most popular choice with 21% of the vote. This was followed by city locations Cannon Hill Park (19%), canal-side at Mailbox (17%), Winterbourne Gardens (10%) and St Paul’s Square (10%).
