The city centre entertainment venue picked up the Chortle Award for Best comedy Venue (East & Midlands) at a prestigious London ceremony which also saw wins for such comedy stars as Peter Kay, Katherine Ryan and Birmingham’s own Joe Lycett – a regular visitor to the Glee.

Opened in 1994, The Glee is renowned for hosting top notch weekend comedy line-ups, comedy tour shows and the weekly Comedy Carousel, as well as music shows and special events. Over the years it has played host to all the big names in comedy including Michael McIntyre, Lee Evans, Sarah Millican and Jack Whitehall.

Forthcoming comedy shows include Simon Evans, Max and Ivan, Sara Pascoe and Andrew Lawrence .

The Birmingham venue first won the award in 2004. With sister venues in Cardiff, Nottingham and Oxford, The Glee brand has, over the years, collected a total of 17 Chortle Awards.

Mark Tughan, The Glee’s Managing Director said: “We are ever so proud to win this award and I think it demonstrates our commitment to bringing quality live entertainment to Birmingham.

“Our club in the city is a very special place and has so much history. We love the intimate music gigs and flamboyant special events we hold, but the heart of The Glee will always be comedy and that is why awards like this mean so much.”
