Volunteers of all ages are being asked to donate their time and support to their local library. Sandwell’s 19 libraries need people willing to help out in a variety of roles - from sorting books and filling shelves, to helping put on events or volunteering at the café at Central library.
Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for leisure Councillor Syeda Khatun said: “Volunteering is incredibly rewarding – whether you want to do it to meet new people, gain new skills, to put on your CV, increase your confidence or just because you love spending time in our libraries.
“Libraries aren’t just about books – we have comedy nights, live music, coding clubs and many more community activities and all of them have room for people to get involved in.
"Government cuts mean we’ve had to make some tough decisions on what we can afford to spend on our library service.
“There are many ways for volunteers to join in – it might helping out at a one-off event or project or you might be able to give up a few hours more regularly.
“We are looking for people from all walks of life to help out at our libraries for the benefit of the whole community.”
