Two dedicated volunteers are in line for a top regional award after curating their first exhibition at Wolverhampton Art Gallery. Julia Foster and Dr Andrew Yarnold are part of the gallery’s Educating Team volunteers who are in line for a West Midlands Musuems Development award. Both volunteers have been nominated for the Project Award for their work on The Drawing Year currently on show in until September 25.
The exhibition shows original drawings from the gallery’s own collection alongside drawings from talented young artists from Wolverhampton schools.
And visitors have been encouraged to pick up pencils and draw a still life which has been set up with easels around it and a space on the walls to display their finished work.
Councillor John Reynolds, cabinet member for City Economy, said: “Parents, grandparents, families and friends of children who have work on show have enjoyed visiting the exhibition and seeing the work of these talented young artists intermixed with works by artists from our collections.
“It is thanks to both Julia and Andrew that young artists have had their work on our gallery walls and I am delighted their project has been recognised with a nomination for the West Midlands Museums Development award.”
The nominations for the award are:
Julia Foster and Andrew Yarnold, Wolverhampton Art Gallery
Roger Gollicker, British Motor Museum
Heritage Water Park Team, Waterworks Museum
NADFAS Copperplate project, Wedgwood Museum
The winners will be announced on 15 September at an evening ceremony at the Birmingham Hippodrome.
