Birmingham Airport (BHX) has reported a strong start to winter, after recording its busiest October ever, with 1,246,664 passengers travelling through the regional transport hub in October 2025 – a 4% increase compared to the same period last year.
The milestone was supported by the airport’s busiest October half-term ever, as well as the launch of new routes and increased frequencies to popular destinations including Sibiu, Rome and Lanzarote. BHX remains on track to experience its busiest year ever with nearly 14 million passengers forecast to travel through in 2025/26.
The most popular destinations for October included sunshine spots such as Dubai, Tenerife, and Palma de Mallorca. Closer to home, Belfast and Dublin were popular short hops in October.
October saw a plethora of notable announcements from Birmingham Airport including a commitment to investing £300 million into enhancing facilities over the next four years. The record investment will ensure that the airport is fit for the future with refurbished, expanded and refreshed facilities that will handle growing passenger numbers.
BHX also recently marked a significant milestone towards its ambition of becoming net zero by 2033 following the successful completion of a sustainable fuel trial. HVO, a diesel-like biofuel, has been trialled in over 30 ground vehicles across the site as part of a significant transition that could reduce fuel emissions by up to 90%.
Al Titterington, Terminal Operations Director of Birmingham Airport said: “We’re delighted to announce that October was yet another record month at Birmingham Airport for passenger volume and was our busiest October ever.
“It’s been a strong year for passenger growth at the airport, and this achievement marks our eighth record-breaking month during this year alone. As we enter the winter season, we are embarking on our most ambitious investment programme ever, which will see £300 million invested across the airport over the next four years.
“These essential works are part of our commitment to providing an improved modern airport for our increasing passenger figures.”
