New member of The Platinum Group – Service Sector, Wolverhampton Grand Theatre recently showcased their fabulous new makeover at a series of popular networking evenings. They have proved very successful and allow local business leaders to develop their relationships in a relaxed and informal manner, whilst enjoying a night at the theatre in a wonderful setting. With the new makeover come numerous opportunities for businesses to utilise the theatre as part of their promotional, conferencing or hospitality plans.

But visitors soon realised that it wasn’t just the theatre that was in the limelight, but also a great example of talent development and employee engagement. Following on from The Platinum Group’s sharing best practice meeting on Employee Engagement and Stress Management delivered by Paycare, the Grand was able to show another fantastic example of employee engagement success.

Jayne Shields, The Platinum Group Business Manager, told how she discovered the story behind the Grand’s new look, “Commenting on the fabulous art deco interior design and asking about the paint colour used throughout (Cat’s Paw, if you are interested!) I was told to speak to Grant, one of the front of house team, who was busy serving the drinks. Proving very knowledgeable about the design and prompted by a fellow team member, I discovered that Grant had actually designed the whole scheme.”

Vicky Price, Associate Director of Development and Communication, said, “Knowing that Grant had just completed a degree in Interior Architecture at Birmingham University, we asked Grant if he would like to submit a design for our forthcoming makeover. Grant jumped at the chance and began working on his art deco design, which fitted perfectly with the essence of the project - to bring new glamour and sophistication to the front of house.”

The Theatre were so impressed with his designs that they commissioned him to carry out the full project. It is clear that members of the front of house team are, understandably, proud of the new look for the theatre.  But this pride is so much deeper because of the story behind the design and the amazing work that their colleague has delivered. A great example of developing talent and fostering employee engagement.

Grant Bushell has since set up his own company, Urban Britannia Interiors, and is currently working on another high profile Wolverhampton interior design project where he is waiting to hear if his designs have been successful. If you want to see his work then be sure to visit Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, which is now open from 11am for coffee throughout the day, as well as for functions and hospitality catering for parties both large and small.

Hats off to The Grand for shining a spotlight on this rising star!
