The City of Wolverhampton Council has been shortlisted for two awards at the LGC Awards 2022, which celebrate the achievements of local government organisations.
The council is a finalist in two categories – ‘Children’s Services’ and ‘Diversity and Inclusion’. In the ‘Children’s Services’ category, the council’s Transforming Children’s Services Programme has been shortlisted after work to transform the way the council supports the most vulnerable children and young people in the city over the last five years.
The programme, launched in 2016, has resulted in highly effective projects and altered the way the council works, ensuring a constant focus on achieving better outcomes for children and young people. And in the ‘Diversity and Inclusion’ category, the council has been shortlisted for work in transforming the way it approaches equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and bringing an EDI lens to all areas of its work.
This work made sure that the entire council workforce is involved in making the council a safe and welcoming place, where all employees can be themselves. This year’s LGC Awards has received a record number of entries from a record number of organisations.

“This is a great achievement for everybody at the council, especially given that the awards have seen a record number of entries this year. Everybody at the City of Wolverhampton Council should feel proud that the work we do – especially for vulnerable children and young people and in promoting equality, diversity and inclusion across the council – is being recognised on a national scale.”
