West Midlands-based funeral director, Jennifer Ashe & Son has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, a pact outlining its dedication to supporting ex-service men and women.

The family-run funeral director which is headquartered in Willenhall is marking Remembrance Day this year by signing the promise with the military services, demonstrating its intention to support the Armed Forces community, through future employment opportunities and support for the families of veterans through discounts on services they offer. Jennifer Ashe & Son employs 20 staff at its five branches based across the West Midlands and Staffordshire, some of which who have served in the armed forces.

The move was inspired by several of the company’s employees who had a former military background. Funeral Service Operative, Steven Matthews has been with the business since 2021, after serving 5 years with the Royal Artillery in Germany. Steven (pic) said: “As soon as I joined Jennifer Ashe & Son, I knew it was a business that really cared about its employees, their wellbeing and future prospects.

“Having served in the forces, I understand how it feels to break out of military lifestyle and routine, and into the working world. It can be daunting and a real challenge for many individuals. The team have helped support me with my transition into civilian work life, making it enjoyable and rewarding in the process.

“Signing the Armed Forces Covenant is really important to me, and other ex-servicepeople. It basically means that Jennifer Ashe will do its utmost as a business to give a fair shot to people who’ve left the forces and provide the support that many workplaces simply do not.”

Managing Director at Jennifer Ashe & Son, John Ashe, added: “We’re honoured to be supporting armed forces leavers and their families by signing this Covenant.

“It was a very simple decision for us, a very effective way of showing our gratitude to ex-service men and women for the sacrifices they have made for our country and our collective safety, as well as furthering our commitment to equal opportunities and a level playing field for all of our own team. We want to support veterans and their families in every way possible, and are proud to offer discounts on our services for ex-service men and women.”
