West Midlands Cycle Hire (WMCH) is offering everyone in the region two free half-hour rides per day during the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The free cycle hire offer, announced today, is just one of many measures such as free spectator shuttle buses and extra public transport services being put in place to ensure visitors and athletes get to venues on time and the region keeps moving during this summer’s festival of sport.

On 28th June 2022, at an event held at the Nehru Centre (London), Mohanji was awarded the ‘Mahaveer Award’ by the Indian Vegetarian Society, a prominent institution of the Jain community. This prestigious award is awarded to those who are working to reduce the suffering of animals and instil compassion in the hearts of humankind.

The embassy of Saint Kitts & Nevis yesterday donated five English-language books written by authors from the Caribbean country to the National Central Library to promote cultural understanding between the two allied countries. At a ceremony at the library attended by educators and officials from the ministries of foreign affairs and education, Saint Kitts and Nevis Ambassador to Taiwan Jasmine Elise Huggins said the donation brings the people of her country and Taiwan closer together.

Keep Britain Tidy and the Mayor of the West Midlands concluded a successful partnership to deliver the West Midlands Great Clean Up - a litter-picking campaign to spruce up the West Midlands region ahead of the Commonwealth Games this summer.

Working alongside Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Wolverhampton and Walsall councils, they mobilised an army of volunteer #LitterHeroes to clean up the region’s parks, streets and waterways over 23rd, 24th and 25th June and beyond.

Passengers planning on travelling during a third day of RMT strike action yesterday were being warned not to get caught out with trains finishing much earlier than normal. Many last trains were set to leave between 3pm and 5pm and arrive at their final destinations before 7pm.

Haringey residents turned out in their numbers as they helped to celebrate South Africa’s Youth Day at our coproduced event in O.R. Tambo Rec on Sunday (19 June 2022).

There were plenty of free activities on offer throughout the afternoon, with children and their families making the most of the summer weather to participate in the basketball, football and/or tennis sessions.
